The New Year is just around the corner and for many that means that it is time for a fresh start. It's a brand new year, with fresh starts and opportunities. Whether you feel like you need a fresh start or not, it might be something to consider. A fresh start can sometimes seem like a negative thing initially, like you need to start over because everything isn't perfect. It doesn't have to be that way, a fresh start is just the opportunity to reflect, get clear on your intensions and allow yourself the possibility to step into a new year with a new mindset. As well, if you see the new year as an opportunity for you to leave the past year behind and truly start fresh then think of it that way. There is absolutely no shame in that and it can be a good motivator for this new year with a new you.
For me, this year has been a rollercoaster, but really I feel like I say that every year. It's had some amazing ups and some pretty tough downs, but I've learned so much and have never been more in alignment with myself than I am after this year. Sometimes, truthfully, I think back on this year and wish I could just forget about some specific things but then I finish my harsh thought, take a deep breath and remember that I have so much to be grateful for this year and I have had so many experiences that I am able to take with me forever. Every single moment is a learn experience and we should not underestimate that.
Ok, that's my little rant on this year. Short and to the point. What I wanted to share with you in this post are my top tips for starting the New Year stress free! A new year can be super exciting but we sometimes also add extra unnecessary stress upon ourselves because of it. So, I wanted to compile a list of things you can do for yourself to start the new year with a clear, content mind.
Detox your life
This is huge and can be understood in a lot of different ways. Detoxing your life does not mean you should throw everything out and go on a juice cleanse. Detoxing your life is about reflecting upon what really matters and whatever does not bring you joy, get rid of it. And I mean that in every way possible, both with material things, activities and people. Stop putting your precious energy into things that don't bring you happiness, excitement and life! Getting rid of these things, allows you to be able to put all that amazing energy into things that truly bring you joy.
Very closely tied to detoxing your life, cleaning is something I do every time the new year rolls around. And I'm not talking about cleaning your home and doing your laundry. I'm talking full blown, clutter clean. Get rid of and give away anything and everything in your home that 1. does not bring you happiness and 2. if you have not used it within the past year. I know this is such a cliche but there is a reason to why it has become a cliche. It works and it's vital for starting your year stress free. Living in an environment with lots of clutter and stuff that just fills your life and doesn't give you anything spiritually in return only adds more stress. Get rid of it.
Make a list of intension
Now I don't know if I entirely believe in making New Year Resolutions but I do believe in taking a moment to understand your intensions. Take 10-15 minutes out of your day today to really think and reflect about what it is you want in life. Make a list of intensions that you want to work towards this year. You can think 1 month, 6 months or by this time next year. Don't think of it as putting pressure on yourself, but as a reflection upon what it is you want to do this year that will make you happy.
Meditation is probably my top tip for starting the New Year stress free and I cannot stress it's powerful abilities enough. Meditation is not just something you should do the first week into the new year. Meditation should be one of your new intentions for 2018, an intension to meditate every day. It has does wonders for me and I will write and entire post about it very soon. But do yourself a huge favor, whether you're currently deal with stress or anxiety or maybe you're going through a tough time or even if you don't relate to either of those things, give meditation a try. It does wonders.
