Hot. Lemon. Water.
This might possibly be a detox/health "thing" that you have heard of many times before. Whether it be from Samantha drinking it in the "Sex and the City" series or from an article or of the likes. Hot lemon water has never been and will never be a fad, because this is the kind of thing you need to incorporate into your daily routine.
Personally, I had an inconsistent relationship with hot lemon water up until mid July/ beginning of August. I used to be very sporadic about when I would actually drink it and just wouldn't be very consistent at all. Then something just got into me, that I needed to get this back into my life, and I've been having it every single morning before my breakfast. Being consistent with it, since then, has really made a difference. I genuinely feel and see a difference.
Ideally, it is best to do it first thing in the morning, before you do or eat anything. But realistically, I typically workout early in the AM before breakfast, and I don't sit around having my hot lemon water before going to the gym. On days where I have yoga or a workout in the afternoon, then I definitely prioritise drinking it first thing. But again, this is life, nothing can be perfect all the time. With this point, I definitely still get all of the benefits, even though it doesn't happen first thing everyday. The most important thing is doing it, doing some thing good for your body! On the other hand though, I have read some articles with information regarding the benefit of hot lemon water after a strenuous workout - in relation to body salts. So hey, maybe the ideal morning for some of you might be getting that awesome workout in, bright and early and then enjoying a nice, big cup of hot lemon water.
Hot lemon water has glorious benefits such as:
- Flushes and helps digestive system
- Hydrates body (VERY important to do in the morning)
- Boosts your immune system thanks to the vitamin C in lemons
- Can help clear your body of nasty toxins
- Does wonders for your skin, both with general clarity but also with wrinkles and acne
- Can be beneficial in preventing or aiding in fighting off colds or the flu
Hot lemon water can also help keep PH levels balanced, help maintain eye health and prevent eye problems. Another note, hot lemon water can be a great thing to start if you are trying to cut back or full on quit coffee/caffeinated drinks.
Personally, I also find that it has brought a sense of calm into my mornings that really makes a difference in my day to day.
My point is that there are a lot of really powerful and wonderful benefits of doing something so simple every morning - so it might be something to consider!
