It's important to cook with the foods that are in season if you are looking to be as all natural as possible! If you are cooking with foods that aren't in season then it has either been unnaturally grown or under transportation for quite a long time. Personally, I never used to think about this and just cooked whatever I wanted to cook. Now, ever since I moved to Denmark that has completely changed. Maybe it's living alone and being more aware but it also has a lot to do with the much stricter laws for produce in Europe. And sometimes, yes, it does suck when you can't buy strawberries when that is what you are craving but then at least you are avoiding all the toxins of un-naturally grown produce.
So! I decided I would make a little list of some of the foods that are in season now in April!
- brussels sprouts
- citrus fruits: limes, oranges, etc.
- greens: spinach, lettuce, kale
- sweet potatoes
Of course this does depend upon your location but here is a little list which can maybe help you decide what to make for dinner this week! :) As well, if you have a local farmers market that is always a great way to ensure that you are getting seasonal and most likely more natural produce than what you can buy in your average super market.
Have a lovely Sunday!
