Last week I posted about my go to breakfast during these chilly past months. And now it's March, supposedly Spring, but it's still freezing outside. So, in light of that, I thought I would share how I make my delicious, warm, yummy porridge every morning. It's really quite easy but I like to spice things up a bit to make it a little more fun than just plain old oats.
First, get the oats. I do 1/4 plain oats and 1/4 fiber oat. Fiber is so so important and this is an easy way to get it into your diet in a yummy way!
Second, the chia seeds. I add about 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, again so many wonderful nutrional aspects of chia seeds, so getting them into your day early is perfect!
Next, I take 3/4 cups of water and pour it over the oats and chia seeds in the pot on the stove. Turn on the stove to a medium to low heat.
Next, take 1/4 to 1/2 cup of almond milk and pour into the pot as well.
While, this slowly warms up, get out your cutting board and cut up and apple into smallish pieces. Smallish meaning not tiny little bits but bit size pieces. Then toss them into the porridge and mix them in. If you are a raisin fan, then this is the time to toss those in as well.
Again let the porridge continue to cook and continuously stir the mixture. When you aren't stirring, get the rest of your toppings ready. Currently, my obsession is coconut flakes, banana and almond butter. But some of my other favorite toppings are strawberries, almonds, pecans and berries.
Once the porridge is almost there, I toss in a couple of blue berries. Just give them a little time to warm up with the porridge, give it a little flavor and then also get all warm and gooshy.
Pour the porridge into your favorite bowl (if you have one), toss on the toppings and you are ready to devour the best breakfast to survive cold days! Not only does it warm you up for it's filled with nutritional goodies! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so make it a good one!
