Endorphins released into your entire body!! Yay, natural production of happiness. Happy body, happy mind, happy you.
2. Boosts Confidence
Nothing feels better than walking out of the gym after an amazing workout. You've done good, you feel good and even though you may be a sweaty mess, you look good. The post workout "glow".
3. Increase in Energy
The increase in energy is out of this world. I know it sounds kind of unbelievable because you expect to be exhausted after a workout and you will be but then it's like you shower and your whole body just re-boots itself. Which is why I love to start my day with some kind of movement, whether it's a walk outside or some quick yoga & stretching before I start my day, anything works. Even if you are heading to a class in the afternoon or later that evening just do something to wake up your body so you can have productive morning.
4. Stress/ Anxiety Relief
Whether your anxiety or stress (or both) is doctor acknowledged or not, people often experience anxiety and stress in our weekly activities. But if it is an issue that you are constantly coping with, on a daily basis, then hitting the gym may be just the thing for you. Or yoga, or maybe take the opposite spectrum and take a kick boxing class (getting all your emotions out in this safe manner can be not only fun but killer for that core of yours). Trust me, it works.
5. Lets You "Let It All Out"
This goes hand in hand with my point above. Whether it be yoga, cycling, walking, running, abs on the floor or kick boxing it all works wonders in calming the mind and gives you an opportunity to let it all out. And if you're going to spend an hour in a complete stress bubble you might as well go fight it off while getting a killer bod, instead of laying in your bed under the covers hiding from the world.
Workouts can be great for not only forming a workout routine but also for creating a healthy routine in every other aspect of your life. It can help you to organize yourself and plan ahead. If you enter a routine for your workouts then you want to make sure you set time aside for it and theres a pretty good chance it'll help you plan and get into a routine of making healthier foods and making better choices. It may sound weird but workout routines will do more than just keep you coming back to the gym.
7. Mind, Body, Soul
My favorite little "saying". Working out doesn't just transform your body, it transforms your mind, your personality, your soul, your behaviors, your choices, your life. If you can get into a lifestyle of working out and making healthier choices you will, in turn, live a completely different life. It's simple really, 1 + 1 = 2. And getting there may not be easy but I promise you it's worth every blood, sweat and tear.
8. New Hobbies
Sure going to the gym can be your hobby if you want it to be, but that wasn't really what I had in mind when I made this bulletpoint. I'm thinking more like expanding your interests by trying something a little different while staying fit. Like trying a new fitness class or one of the fads that start up every couple of months. Yoga was my first "adventure workout", honestly I didn't believe that going to a yoga class would make me sweat and actually make me feel like I got a good workout. But boy was I wrong. Of course this is dependent on what class you take but yoga is great for every part of your body, especially your core (which we all love right?). But when I joined my studio here in Aarhus I ventured out into things that I never in my wildest dreams had imagined myself getting involved in. I'm talking ballet, barre, modern dance, I mean just all sorts of fun things. It just makes moving your body so much more fun and it does turn into a sort of hobby because you want to get better and come back for more! And a hobby that keeps you fit, calm and is also hilariously fun sounds like a pretty killer combo.
This goes hand in hand with the hobby. A lot of hobbies are much more individualized but if your hobby consists of going to a yoga or barre class you are also becoming apart of that community. No you may not be sitting around and chit chatting but you will be sweating together, motivating each other and laughing as you all try to do ballet with stiff running legs.
10. It Can Be Fun
Many people just don't believe this one but it really can be. It has a lot to do with your mindset. If you tell yourself you're gonna have a fun workout then it will be fun. The way you choose to workout determines how it will be and also how much you will get out of it. Ok, so maybe running on the treadmill for 30 minutes can't be fun, which is totally fair to say because it is boring, I haven't done that in so long exactly for the reason that it is so dreadfully boring. I've discovered the hundreds of other options for staying active. Having variety in the workout doesn't only make it way more fun but it also challenges different parts of your body, which can really make a difference. A difference you'll notice physically but also mentally.
11. Improvements in Sleep
Whether you workout in the morning, in the afternoon or in the evening you will notice improvements in sleep. It is kind of a weird thing that working out will give you new fresh energy but it will also improve your sleep. You body will be tired and it will need to reboot itself after a full day but then if you add a workout to it, it will need it even more. When you workout your muscles contract and actually rip (which sounds so weird...) but it makes even more understandable that your body will need more rest. So once you hit that pillow you are ready to check out for the night.
12. Anti-aging / Skin
Scientifically proven. Nothing more needs to be said, I'm pretty sure we all want this wonderful side effect.
13. Lower Risk of Cancer, High Blood Pressure & Diabetes
Scientifically proven, again. Stimulation to the body can save your life.
14. Strengthens Bones & Heart
Again movement saves lives.
15. Quality of Life
I want to end off with this one because it's a kind of sum of all the others, combined together into one bullet point. If you can take just little steps to start and promote a healthier lifestyle for yourself you will notice a change. Not just a change in your physical body, but in all other aspects of your life. You're quality of life will change for the better and I promise you, you will fall in love with it. Fall in love with the feeling of improvement, bettering yourself but also the happiness that comes along with doing good for your body and mind.
