This TED Talk is an interesting look into the medias portrayal of male vs. female roles. Colin Stokes looks at how movies are impacting the lessons children may learn from popular movies. Stokes looks into comparing "The Wizard of Oz" and the "Star Wars" series, a classic older movie with more modern action movies. These concepts are really important to keep in mind because what children are watching does effect what they think and do. A child's favorite movie is something that can completely consume their attention and they form strong connections with the characters. Now this may sound slightly extreme because you may ask, "there is no way a 5 year old is really thinking about the lessons learned in movies", but subconsciously they are. Due to the relationship and connection they form with their favorite characters, whether its Elsa (Frozen) or Obi-wan Kenobi (Star Wars), they do take after what these heroes' actions. Just an interesting aspect to keep in mind. Movies do have a strong impact on all of us, which shows the power of the media.
